I can't tell you how happy this song makes me. I mean it's infectious, albeit a grower on first listen. Much like N.E.R.Ds sound, it takes a while to really adjust yourself to such an obscure contemporary creation that feels as if it belongs to an earlier era. It's got that old soul, hippie, happy, funk of the 80s. Pharrell never fails to compose and produce an unusual and enjoyable track. This is utterly consuming- it changed my solemn mood immediately and I HIGHLY recommend it as a free, accessible and repetitive tonic. Put it on repeat ladies and gents, it will give you rose tinted glasses and a sudden boost.
(Even travelling on the bus on a standard commute home, I felt like it was a jolly, unified swaying ride, with everyone on a journey to a sunny destination...weird man. I wasn't high no)
Anyway, f*ckin 5star without a doubt. AND it's the soundtrack song to 'Despicable Me 2' which is probably one of the cutest PIXAR story lines and animated films EVER, that can alter the grimmest of moods. Yes this track is ideal for that film with an abundance of yellow minions and starring some impossibly high-pitched children, even if the lyrics aren't the most imaginative set. The only O.K line is 'Because I'm Happy- clap along if you feel like a room without a roof,' even if it's not totally metaphorically/literally understandable. I mean is a room without a room happier than one with? I wouldn't say so, due to unpredictable adverse weather conditions and higher risk of interior damage. And also '...like happiness is the truth'- what is that line? Can an emotion even be truthful? Emotions are subjective. This annoys me.
Anyway, I told ya- I'm all about the music so enjoy and don't absorb the lyrics too much.
