So I’ve decided (as I wanted to make the most of this experience and do something productive) to write a daily account and diary of what I do and see. Things that are amazing, unusual, horrible- the lot! This method primarily, because a component of my dissertation, for collecting qualitative and rich information was writing a lengthy diary daily entry of my time in Brighton. Thus, my Ghana trip would be a nice contrast to a purely urban scenario, to a rural/ developing urban scenario.
The reflections then become a thick sum of versatile data I can use for a variety of things post-trip and act as keep-sakes. :)
This sparked further enthusiasm to continue these small projects whenever I go to a new place of interest, collecting a worldly catalogue of experiences. Obviously photos are a given. So far I have South Africa and Brighton, each a minimum of a 3 week period.
It kind of makes me want to continue this onto throughout my lifetime, perhaps as a basis for a social research career, in differing environments and mapping change. Helping communities in addition to writing and empiricism would be great, much like Project Limpopo was.
