Future Festival Sydney 2015. One Word- Drake

Future Festival Sydney 2015 was a festival like any other, except that for the main course of it, it wasn't. Yes there was sun, cider and singing, (plus the mounds of annoying festival-goers with vests, bum-shorts and everyone reeking of over-confidence), but there was also the fact that I WAS IN AUSTRALIA, the weather was bold, warming and long-lasting, I had a dear old friend whom I hadn't see for years by my side which brought back even more emotion/nostalgia, and my mood was constantly anticipating what was to come- I was utterly giddy and nervous about the fact I was about to encounter one of my favourite artists. Or less modestly, THE artist. Example was Example, 2Chainz was mostly noise and confusion from the crowd, tipsy on a fairground ride is VERY fun and Sydney does festivals well providing free water. Here are a few snaps- I won't overdo it, you get the gist.

The moment had come where I got to embrace the one artist that I will never tire of, never not be intrigued by, and one who will always carry meaning for me. I cannot write extensively why on this topic purely because it is a personal one, but I can say that the images are nothing compared to endless video clips I have and even they are just a fragment of the reality of seeing him live. Half way during his set he arrived in the centre of the crowd on a mini platform about 2m from my face when I was on shoulders. And it couldn't have been more perfectly coincidental. I could see his genuine nature, facial expressions (and sweat), and average light denim two-piece. He's awesome, who am I kidding! Just as good live, WITH WAY MORE ENERGY AND PASSION, as on recording. Although that in itself is pretty hard, as he's managed to translate himself super-well into his music up to date. He played an elongated set, with real excitement about being in Aus for the first time. We got plentiful conversation and actual singing from him- he's REAL good at engaging with the crowd. OB Obrien, 2Chainz and P Reign joined him on stage to perform some of his newest material. 'Thotful/2 On' was particularly wild with OB. Flash back to my LA trip 2014 when it was all over the US radio.

It's strange though- there were several moments where the Australian crowd were clueless, and it was just Jack and I screaming out all D's stuff from past to present. They're yet to grasp his full power, it's okay. The UK have the upper hand when it comes to the music circulation scene.

Overall he was just as great and touching as I imagined. I cried, beamed, jammed and screamed. I left in fixed amazement with wide dewy eyes and a faint smile on my face for a long time afterwards. I thoroughly recommend going to see him- I will follow him on tour again, and I can die a happy girl now.
